George Washington University is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Disability Services Associate to join its team in Foggy Bottom, Maryland. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Disability Support Services (DSS), Strategic Skills Services, this role focuses on coordinating and delivering career-related programs and services for students with disabilities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about empowering students and enhancing their career prospects.

Key Responsibilities

The Disability Services Associate will have a range of responsibilities designed to support and advance the career opportunities for students with disabilities. These responsibilities include:

Career Development Programs

  • Career Planning and Job Search: Designing and facilitating career planning and job search programs tailored for students with disabilities.
  • Career Coaching Services: Providing one-on-one career coaching to help students navigate their career paths effectively.
  • Educational Programs: Leading educational programs that cover various aspects of career development.

Student Support

  • Counseling on Disability-Related Topics: Advising students on self-advocacy, disclosing disabilities to potential employers, and requesting necessary accommodations.
  • Academic and Career Advisement: Offering individual and group advisement sessions to support students’ academic and career decision-making processes.

Internship and Employment Preparation

  • Program Preparation: Preparing students for participation in internship and employment programs, including Job Shadow Days, the Workforce Recruitment Program, COSD, and Entry Point.
  • Employer Development: Identifying and engaging with prospective employers in various sectors to create job and internship opportunities for students with disabilities.

Collaboration and Data Management

  • Employer Relations: Supporting GW Career Services with employer relations and recruitment activities, including promoting career fairs and networking events.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Participating in regular meetings with GW Career Center staff and collaborating with colleagues in Disability Support Services/ODI.
  • Data Collection and Planning: Collecting data on all programs and events, and developing an annual plan to provide comprehensive career and academic activities for students.

Additional Duties

  • Research and Development: Staying informed about career development trends, markets, and issues to enhance the support provided to students.
  • Miscellaneous Tasks: Performing other duties as assigned to support the strategic goals of the DSS.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
